Camp is approaching quickly, and there are some updates and new information for staff and students.
The schedule for Friday's Student Performance Concert has been set! The list is at the bottom of this update. Chamber choir, jazz band, and orchestra students have all been instructed to bring a white top and black pants for their respective performances. If an instructor has special costuming requests, please email your students and ask them to bring what they need in advance, so they are sure to pack the correct items. Please take note, as well, that the times will be adhered to as closely as possible, regardless whether that time is consumed by performing, setting up, or lengthy introduction, dissertation, or discussion.
In addition to performances at the concert, certain classes will have in-class demonstrations, which can also be found by scrolling down this page. Please contact the MAT Camp administration with any changes or questions about the concert or the in-class demonstrations.
Please take note that, due to the performance schedule on Friday, classes are only 25 minutes long. Please plan accordingly!
This year, the school district has set some hard rules dictating when MAT Camp staff and/or students may be in the building. Set up will be on the Friday before camp starts (July 15). Because of the new school district rules, we are not permitted to enter the building to set up on Sunday night. However, the building will be open early on Monday morning. Additionally, we will not have access to the facility after the conclusion of camp on Friday night, so be sure to take all of your belongings. Finally, don't plan on being in the building on Monday or Thursday night. The building will be locked after Camp sessions are concluded on evenings during which no events are scheduled.
The staff concert will be on Wednesday, July 20, and all performing staff are welcome to participate. The students always enjoy the opportunity to see their teachers perform. The staff concert will be slated for 1.5 hours or less. Due to the time constraint, please try to be relatively brief. One movement of a piece is usually enough, so there is room for lots of variety. All styles of music, theatre and dance are welcome. If piano accompaniment is required, please be sure to get Derek Yaple-Schobert the music in advance so he can prepare.
Staff who are performing will need to make arrangements to rehearse on their own. As mentioned previously, there will be no access to the facility Sunday or Monday night, and the building will be locked us at 9 pm on Tuesday night. Plan your evening rehearsals at alternate locations.
Lunches will be provided for staff on campus during the week. The current menu is as follows:
Monday - baked potato bar, Tuesday - Haystacks, Wednesday - chef salad (with meat and egg options), Thursday - chicken or potato casserole, Friday - meat and veggie lasagna. Efforts have been made to provide staff lunches that are meat-optional. School lunch will also be available for around $3, which could be another option for those with special dietary needs. Staff who intend to eat off-campus or make other plans for meals should inform the MAT Camp administration to that effect.
One common question is with respect to attire. Dress during camp is casual, with appropriate attire expected during concerts. Be sure to bring a sweater or hoodie in case it is cool at night. In Wyoming, it is not entirely unheard of for snow to fly any time of the year!
We have a full week scheduled, with most hours during the day filled with up to 21 classes at any given moment! The evenings are also busy, with a different event each night from Tuesday through Friday. Monday is open, with no activities scheduled. Tuesday will feature "The Gong Show" talent show. The theme is Weird and Wacky. Come ready for some fun! Staff is encouraged to participate, provided they stick to the theme. Nothing too serious. Students love to see their teachers perform something funny, and there is a history of fabulously wacky performances in past years. Be thinking about it! Wednesday will feature the staff concert. On Thursday, Evanston will get to experience its very own Flashmob. You don't want to miss it! (More details later.) Finally, Friday will wrap up the week with the student concerts.
For those who have requested lodging - We're working on it! Everybody will be informed of their host homes once the list is finalized.
